Since November 1, supporters of Menterprise Africa have donated money to a month-long fundraising drive geared towards raising US$5,000 to support entrepreneurship training for teenage mothers and youth with disabilities. Now, with the financial target almost within touching distance, the social enterprise has organized a charity event to crown its money mobilization campaign.

On Saturday, 29 November, all roads lead to Ntinda School for the Deaf (opposite St. Luke’s Chapel), where Menterprise Africa has organised several charity and recreation activities such as a car wash, fun football games, barbecue, soft drinks, a mini-market and children’s games such as bouncing castles and sack races.

According to Belinda Nabude, a Co-Founder and Operations Director at Menterprise Africa, the event is set to start at 9am and end at 5pm. Nabude described the event, organised under the theme “Empower Inclusion in Africa,” as an opportunity to bring the community of Menterprise Africa supporters together and to raise essential funds for the organization’s planned inclusion projects.

“We are eagerly anticipating our upcoming charity event, which promises a day of fun, community spirit and meaningful impact,” she said. “The proceeds will directly support our efforts to empower and promote inclusivity for disabled youth and young mothers through entrepreneurship and digital marketing skills training.”

Menterprise Africa is undertaking the fundraising drive as one of the 52 African non-profits selected (out of 4,000 applicants) by the New Africa Fund (NAF) to participate in the second cohort of NAF’s Africa Impact Fundraising Grant Program. NAF, a US-based social enterprise, promises to match dollar-for-dollar the donations (up to US$5,000) that each of its 52 participating groups raises before 30 November.

NAF President Steven Beck informed management of Menterprise Africa in a 10 October email that the best performing organizations during the fundraising challenge will receive a number of additional opportunities geared at improving their capacity to raise funds and to ensure the continuous learning and growth of their staff.

The top-performing organizations from the Challenge Phase will be invited to a week-long fundraising skills workshop in Kigali, Rwanda—with all expenses covered by the New Africa Fund,” he wrote. “Organizations that complete the workshop will gain access to exclusive learning opportunities and invite-only funding opportunities with the New Africa Fund.”

If you wish to donate to Menterprise Africa’s fundraising campaign using your debit or credit card, please use this link. You can also donate using MTN or Airtel Money by following the prompts on our flyers.

Besides the Ntinda School for the Deaf, which is availing its premises for Menterprise Africa’s fundraising campaign, the social enterprise has also been supported for the 29 November event by the Judy Heumann Foundation, an internationally recognized leader in the disability community and a lifelong civil rights advocate for disadvantaged people.

According to Maxwell Ochaya from the Judy Heumann Foundation, his organization will conduct a free legal clinic for persons with disabilities.
